Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Clinically diagnosed as severe chronic periodontitis, probing depth (PD)>6 mm; loss of attachment (AL) = 5 mm; alveolar bone resorption>1/2 root length; loose teeth. The inflammation is more obvious and may be accompanied by periodontal abscess. Secondary or tertiary root bifurcation lesions in posterior teeth. The patient needs to have more than 2 affected teeth with the first 3 characteristics mentioned above; If there are only 2 affected teeth, they must be non adjacent teeth located in different quadrants. 2. Aged from 18 to 70 3. No systemic diseases 4. No smoking habits or smoking cessation for more than 1 year
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Women during pregnancy 2. Patients whom have used antibiotics and/or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) within 1 month prior to the trial 3. Patients whom have undergone surgical or non-surgical periodontal treatment in the 3 months prior to the trial
