Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) physical status (I&II) (2) Age <= 12 years old; (3) Undergoing elective tonsillectomy with or without adenoidectomy.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1)Known cardiopulmonary diseases (uncorrected congenital heart disease, primary or secondary pulmonary hypertension, tumors, structural lung diseases); (2)Neuromuscular diseases; (3) Obese (BMI>30 kg/m2); (4)Severe upper respiratory tract infection and the anesthesiologist recommends delaying surgery; (5)Allergy to either midazolam or dexmedetomidine; (6)Children whose parents refused to allow them to participate.
