12 Years to 30 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Orthodontic patients who has been indicated for bilateral maxillary first premolar extraction and canine retraction. 2. No systemic diseases, allergies, consumption of medication or alcohol, previous or current smoking, pregnancy, any signs and symptoms of periodontal diseases (periodontal depth and/or clinical attachment loss more than 3 mm, or radiographic evidence of alveolar bone loss), or previous orthodontic treatment will be excluded from this study. All patients will be received proper oral hygiene instruction and the periodontal evaluation will be performed at each time point using gingival index (GI) and plaque index (PI) described by Silness and Loe. If either GI or PI score is more than 0.9 that individual will be exclude from this study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with any systemic diseases or allergies 2. Patients with consumption of medication or alcohol 3. Previous or current smokers 4. Pregnant patients 5. Any signs and symptoms of periodontal diseases (periodontal depth and/or clinical attachment loss more than 3 mm, or radiographic evidence of alveolar bone loss) 6. Previous orthodontic treatment

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity At before starting canine retraction, 1 day after canine retraction, 1 week after canine retraction, and 1 month after canine retraction. Using commercial SOD activity assay kits following the manufacturer's instructions.,SOD3 protein level At before starting canine retraction, 1 day after canine retraction, 1 week after canine retraction, and 1 month after canine retraction. Amount of tooth movement Before starting canine retraction and 1 month after retraction. Measuring distance between distal surface of maxillary lateral incisor and mesial surface of maxillary canine from intraoral scans.
