Eligibility

18 Years to 65 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients aged 18 to 65 years. 2. Sustained acute thermal burns. 3. Presented with bronchoscopically confirmed smoke inhalation injury within 24 hours of admission requiring invasive mechanical ventilation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Presence of a bleeding diathesis or concurrent therapeutic anticoagulation. 2. Severe chronic lung disease (GOLD 3-4 COPD). 3. Known allergy to heparin or N-acetylcysteine (NAC). 4. Pregnancy. 5. Expected survival of less than 72 hours as determined by a consensus of two senior intensivists.
