Delayed-onset muscle soreness in the gastrocnemius muscle of healthy collegiate students following unaccustomed high-intensity eccentric exercise. The condition is characterized by muscle pain, tenderness, stiffness, swelling, decreased muscle strength, reduced joint range of motion, and temporary loss of muscle function. Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Healthy college students aged 18-23 years 2. BMI ranging from 18 to 24 3. Score of Physical Activity Scale (PARS-3) (Liang, 1994) less than or equal to 19 4. Meet the voluntary participation criteria 5. Normal general physical examination and meet the requirements of the health screening form 6. No sports fatigue one week before the trial 7. Voluntarily signed the informed consent form 8. Did not participate in high-intensity exercise one week before and during the trial 9. Could not accept any other intervention measures except those specified in the trial

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Use of anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, or muscle relaxants within 48 hours prior to the trial 2. Recent lower limb surgery or open wounds in areas related to massage intervention 3. Skin hypersensitivity or allergy to materials used in massage devices 4. Having bad habits such as smoking and excessive drinking 5. Participation in other massage therapies or physiotherapy programs within 1 week prior to the trial 6. Receipt of any interventions targeting delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) relief within 1 week prior to the trial, including but not limited to: other forms of massage (manual massage, foam rolling, massage devices not specified in this study); physical therapies (cold-water immersion, heat therapy, compression therapy, ultrasound therapy, electrical stimulation); pharmacological interventions (anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, muscle relaxants, DOMS-related nutritional supplements); alternative therapies (acupuncture, acupressure, herbal remedies); or additional exercise regimens (low-intensity exercise, yoga, recovery-focused physical activities beyond daily routines) 7. Pre-existing musculoskeletal pain or joint disorders (Neck, shoulder, or back pain; Knee osteoarthritis pain; Ankle sprain pain) with a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score of 3 or higher
