Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients with end stage renal disease aged over 18 years who are receiving maintenance hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis and have persistently elevated serum intact parathyroid hormone above 800 pg per mL for at least six months, together with at least one of the following despite phosphate binder therapy: 1. Serum calcium at least 10.2 mg per dL 2. Serum phosphorus above 5.5 mg per dL 3. Presence of bone pain
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Previous parathyroidectomy 2.Thyroid cancer 3.Severe comorbid conditions that contraindicate surgery 4.History of allergy to calcitriol 5.Baseline serum calcium less than 8.6 mg per dL on the day of randomization 6.Pregnant women, 7.Those who declined to participate.
