Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Adult (>18 years old) 2. Mechanically ventilated patients with shock (controlled ventilation; Richmond agitation sedation scale (RASS) less than -3 (moderate sedation)) with tidal volume >/= 8 ml / kg predicted body weight

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. IJV thrombosis/obstruction/stenosis 2. History of irradiation or surgery of the neck region 3. Atrial fibrillation 4. Significant valvular heart disease 5. Left ventricular assisted device 6. Pregnancy 7. Previous volume expander greater than 4 liters
