Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1.Age between 20 and 60 years 2.Diagnosed with myofascial pain syndrome of the upper trapezius muscle by a physiatrist with baseline pain score equal or greater than 40 on a 100-mm visual analog scale (VAS), indicating at least moderate pain 3.Willing and able to participate in this study
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Coagulopathy 2. fever 3.syncope 4. history of neck or shoulder surgery 5.lack of response to previous dry needling treatment 6. skin infection at the needling site 7.known allergy to acetaminophen 8. cold intolerance 9.cold induced urticaria 10. history of Raynauds phenomenon 11.paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria 12. peripheral vascular disease 13.use of analgesics within three days prior to the study 14.diagnosis of fibromyalgia.
