Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: (1) Participants should be undergraduate students between the ages of 18 and 25. This age group is typically the dominant age group for college students and is more susceptible to academic and social pressures that may lead to sleep disorders. (2) All participants were screened by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), a commonly used tool for assessing sleep quality, with a total score of greater than 5 to indicate the presence of a sleep disorder; PSQI scores range from 0 to 21, with higher scores reflecting poorer sleep quality, so a score of 5 was used as an inclusion criterion to ensure that the participants had a sleep problem. (3) All participants should voluntarily participate in the study and sign a formal informed consent form, clearly understanding the purpose, process, potential risks and possible benefits of the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Exclude individuals with pre-existing serious mental health disorders, including, but not limited to, diagnosed mental illnesses such as major depression, generalised anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These conditions may interfere with the accuracy of the mental health assessment and do not exclude the intervention effects of medication or treatment. (2) Exclude individuals with a history of severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc., which may interfere with exercise responses to mental health and increase the bias of study results. (3) Any participant with a significant medical condition such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or cancer will be excluded. Such illnesses may affect the effectiveness of the delivery of the exercise intervention, as well as the assessment of sleep quality and mental health, leading to biased results. (4) Pregnant and breastfeeding women will be excluded from this study due to their special physiological state and the possible adverse effects of the exercise intervention on their health. (5) Participants undergoing medication (e.g., antidepressants, anxiolytics, etc.) or psychotherapy (e.g., cognitive-behavioural therapy, psychological detachment, etc.) will be excluded in order to avoid the cross-talk between these interventions and the effects of the exercise intervention, and to ensure the purity of the study intervention.
