Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Participants were eligible for inclusion if they met all of the following conditions: 1. Aged 60 years or older and residing in Nong Muang District, Lopburi Province. 2. Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. 3. Thai nationality and able to communicate in the Thai language. 4. Achieved a score of at least 3 on the Thai version of the Mini-Cog cognitive function test. 5. Had an Activities of Daily Living (ADL) score at least 12. 6. Had no risk factors or symptoms of COVID-19, or had recovered and completed the infectious period (at least 20 days after testing positive).
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Participants were excluded if they met any of the following conditions: 1. Had a history of ketoacidosis. 2. Had neuromuscular disorders affecting the head and neck that impaired swallowing or tongue movement. 3. Declined or were unwilling to participate in the study. 4. Presented with acute intra-oral lesions, such as acute candidiasis. 5. Had suspected oral cancer lesions. 6. Had a bleeding tendency or bleeding disorders, such as pyogenic granuloma.
