Interventions

Participants in this group will receive structured physical education lessons focused on backstroke swimming. The instruction will follow a standardized 10-week curriculum designed to improve swimming

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Students currently enrolled in a lower primary level of a formal school. 2. Physically healthy and able to safely participate in swimming activities. 3. Have not received formal swimming instruction within the past six months. 4. Have written informed consent from a parent or legal guardian. 5. Willing to fully participate in the scheduled swimming instruction throughout the intervention period.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Students identified during screening as having medical conditions that may pose a risk during swimming activities (e.g., respiratory, cardiovascular, or musculoskeletal issues). 2. Students who display severe fear of water (aquaphobia) that interferes with safe participation. 3. Students who are unable to attend the scheduled sessions regularly or complete the intervention period. 4. Students whose parents or guardians withdraw consent before or during the study.

Swimming ability Baseline (Week 0) and post-intervention (Week 11) Assessed through three practical swimming tasks: (1) swimming 25 meters using any stroke, (2) floating for a specified duration, and (3) kicking 25 meters with or without a kickboard.

Swimming-related anxiety Baseline (Week 0) and post-intervention (Week 11) Measured using a validated swimming anxiety questionnaire for children.
