Healthy mothers whose children are admitted in PICU Maternal perceived self-efficacy Maternal stress Critical illness PICU

Interventions

The empowerment program offered by the primary investigator will be held for four days with the following activities Day 1 after admission within 24 hours, collecting a baseline data by the primary r
afterwards, informing of diagnosis, current condition, and initial plan for medical and nursing care
then, allowing them to watch a 5-minute VDO clip to receive information about PICU (including PICU environment, mostly used medical equipment, staff, regulations for visitation, and characteristics an
at bedside, encouraging the mothers to provide mental and emotional support by touching, talking to, and hugging their child
and lastly encouraging the mothers to share information and ideas that might be useful for health care team in care provision to the child. Day 2 - Day 4 assessing perception of their child illness a
then providing and updating information about condition of the child, medical treatment and nursing care given
providing a chance to ask questions, share their concerns and needs, discuss and make joint decision with nurses and physicians in care for the child
encouraging the mothers to participate in child care activities by teaching, demonstrating, coaching and allowing them to practice care by themselves included feeding, cleaning, positioning, showing l

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Having child first admitted in PICU. 2. Able to communicate in Thai (listen, speak, read and write). 3. Able to visit their child everyday in first week of admission.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. the child being diagnosed with non- resuscitation. 2. the child admitted for post observation after operation or medical procedure. 3. the mother having mental problem or drugs addicted that affects to her decision.
