Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Has no motor deficit. 2. Being at least 50 years old and able to give informed consent. 3. Able to eat regular food 4. Has never been diagnosed with dysphagia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Unable to communicate. 2. Moderate to severe dementia 3. Unable to follow through exercise protocol, defined as total exercise days less than 45 days.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
MTP baseline and end of 8-week exercise kPa/ measured using an IOPI device. The participant presses a balloon against the palate with maximum effort. The best value from three trials is recorded.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
ETP baseline and end of 8-week exercise kPa/ measured by timing how long the participant can sustain 50% of their MTP using the same device.
