Conditions

The primary health condition studied is bacterial keratitis, a serious corneal infection that can lead to vision loss. The study focuses on identifying the genetic and virulence profiles of bacterial pathogens causing keratitis, as well as exploring the potential of bacteriophages as alternative therapeutic agents. Patients clinically diagnosed with suspected bacterial keratitis undergoing corneal scraping as part of standard care. Corneal samples will be collected and subjected to culture, PCR, and bacteriophag

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Written informed consent must be obtained before any assessment is performed. 2. Male or female participants 18 years of age or older 3. Bacterial keratitis patients diagnosed based on clinical findings and corneal scraping for bacterial culture. Definitive identification of bacterial organism will be determined after culture results. 4. Bacterial keratitis patients with single lesion with the size of area corneal ulcer more than or equal 4 mm and or multifocal lesions not less than 2 adjacent lesions 5. Able to communicate well with the investigator, to understand and comply with the requirements of the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients diagnosed with microbial keratitis excluding bacterial etiologies (e.g., fungal keratitis, Acanthamoeba keratitis, microsporidial keratitis, viral keratitis) 2. Patients with a final diagnosis inconsistent with bacterial keratitis based on negative bacterial culture results or identification of non-bacterial pathogens. 3. Patients who present with descematocele, corneal perforation, or endophthalmitis. 4. Cases with incomplete medical records or follow-up data of less than 1 month. 5. Presence of ocular or non-ocular conditions or circumstances that could interfere with the ability to participate in the full duration of the study visits as indicated in the protocol.
