Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. diagnosed with diabetes mellitus 2. treated with metformin (in the past or currently using) 3. both male and female, 18 years or older

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. The patients discontinued metformin or have reduced the dosage of metformin due to reasons other than GI side effects, such as renal impairment (eGFR less than 45 mL/min/1.73 m2 calculated by Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration), metformin-induced lactic acidosis, or vitamin B12 deficiency. 2. patient with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) 3. patient with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) 4. Cirrhosis Child-Pugh classification B or C 5. patient with advanced-stage cancer 6. patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome 7. pregnancy
