Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants were eligible if they (1) were undergraduate students aged 18-25 years at Chongqing Medical University; (2) were classified as physically inactive, defined as engaging in less than 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per week according to World Health Organization guidelines; (3) had no prior exposure to BFR training; and (4) provided written informed consent after receiving a comprehensive explanation of study procedures and voluntary withdrawal rights.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants were ineligible if they had (1) recent surgeries or musculoskeletal injuries within the past 6 months; (2) a history of cardiovascular events or conditions contraindicated for exercise testing; (3) current use of hormonal medications or anabolic supplements; (4) tobacco use within the past 6 months; (5) any chronic health conditions that could interfere with exercise performance or safety; or (6) current participation in structured resistance training programs.
