7 Years to 18 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Children aged 7 years to less than 18 years 2. Children who has been diagnosed with transfusion-dependent thalassemia and have received regular blood transfusion at least 12 months at Siriraj Hospital 3. Eligible to understand Thai language 4. Eligible to record food intake

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Have a problem of thiamin absorption e.g., underwent bariatric surgery 2. Receive probiotic supplement containing strains that can produce thiamin 3. Experienced critical illness less than 1 month 4. Have other co-morbidities requiring diuretic drugs 5. Had recent infection within two weeks 6. Have other hematologic disease

Functional assay of erythrocyte transketolase activity (ETKA) at enrollment ETKA is measured using the nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide (NADH)-dependent method
