Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Age > 18 years old 2.Non-diabetic CKD stage 3-4 3.Normal serum bicarbonate (HCO3 22-26 mEq/L)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Use of chronic daily oral alkali (such as sodium bicarbonate, sodium citrate, potassium citrate, etc) 2.Serum potassium < 3.3 or > 5.5 mEq/L 3.Self-reported vegetarian 4.New York Heart Association Class 3 or 4 heart failure symptom 5.History of staghorn calculi 6.Active glomerular disease requiring immunosuppressive agents 7.Kidney transplant patient 8.Pregnancy
