Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: aged 18 years and older who presented with newly developed sepsis and were transferred to the MICU following participation in three prior prospective studies
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: pregnancy, increased intra-abdominal pressure, deep venous thrombosis, significant intra-abdominal masses, pulmonary edema, cardiac failure, brain edema, contraindications for arterial catheter placement, and contraindications for pulse contour cardiac output monitoring
