Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Healthy volunteers aged 18-85 years old. Cirrhotic patients from the Liver Clinic or hospital wards without overt HE according to the West-Haven criteria
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The following exclusion criteria were used for the control group: (1) Presence of chronic liver diseases, neuropsychiatric diseases, or other diseases that can impair cognitive function; (2) A prior history of chronic liver disease, neurologic or psychiatric disorders; (3) Use of psychoactive medications; (4) Alcohol consumption > 50 g/day for males and 20 g/day for females; and (5) Inability to read and write.
