Conditions

Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an emergency ophthalmic event that has pathophysiology similar to acute cerebral ischemia. It is a rare condition, which incidence is approximately 1-2 in 100,000 people but has subsequent devastating visual outcomes. Visual acuity deteriorates to 20/400 or worse in most patients. Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients who were at least 18 years of age and had onset of CRAO within 24 hours

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who received recombinant tissue plasminogen activator or had complications affecting visual acuity from conventional treatment of CRAO.
