Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria are, age between 15to50 years, elective clean and clean contaminated laparotomies, accepting participation and this is considered the first laparotomy. All recruited patient will be subjected to history taking, carful general examination, and medical consultations and through investigations. Betadine Surgical Scrub (7.5% povidone-iodine) is used for skin Disinfection. The amount of povidone iodine disinfectant used was at least 75ml, via at least three outward spiralling movements from the center of the abdomen. The patients were instructed take a bath at home before going to the hospital. They were informed to be at the hospital just before midnight where the attended staff deal with them and started first time disinfection at midnight.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria are, refusal of participation, not strictly following instructions, Feverish patients, selective emergent operations, potentially infected laparotomies, intraoperative gross spillage or intestinal injury, diabetics, obese, chronic liver and renal diseases, chronic infections, immunocompromised patients, anemias, autoimmune disorders and chronic debilitating diseases
