Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Chronic kidney disease stage 3-4 (estimated GFR 15-59 mL/min/1.73 m2)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: intact PTH >200 pg/mL serum phosphorus >5.0 mg/dL serum albumin < 3.0 g/dL serum potassium >5.2 mEq/L chronic diarrhea, gut obstruction or bypass surgery of small bowel/large bowel Previous surgery/radiation of parathyroid glands or thyroid glands Prescribed aluminum based, or calcium based medication, active vitamin D or vitamin D analogs
