Children under 6 months of age admitted to hospitals having clinical diagnosis of severe pneumonia. Severe pneumonia is defined as the manifestation of cough or difficulty in breathing,
plus at least one of these symptoms: severe respiratory distress such as grunting,
very severe chest indrawing
central cyanosis or oxygen saturation <90% on pulse oximetry
or signs of pneumonia with a general danger sign,
for example,
inability to breastfeed or drink,
lethargy,
reduce level of unconscious,
or convulsions.

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Children under 6 months of age will be eligible if all following criteria are met: • Children admitted to hospitals having clinical diagnosis of severe pneumonia. Severe pneumonia is defined as the manifestation of cough or difficulty in breathing, plus at least one of these symptoms: severe respiratory distress such as grunting, very severe chest indrawing; central cyanosis or oxygen saturation <90% on pulse oximetry; or signs of pneumonia with a general danger sign, for example, inability to breastfeed or drink, lethargy, reduce level of unconscious, or convulsions . • Children whose parent(s) or Legally Acceptable Representative(s) (LAR(s)) accept to sign on an informed consent form.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Cases who meet the following criteria will be excluded: • Children whose parent (s) or LAR are unable to consent.
