Inclusion criteria: Adult patients with 18 years of age or older, who were admitted in the medical ICU for more than 24 hours and had three or more point of care (POC) blood glucose samplings during the first 24 hours of

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: We subsequently excluded the patients who were readmitted in ICU within the same admission period, were admitted after primary coronary intervention (PCI), were diagnosed with a hyperglycemic emergency such as diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmotic hyperglycemic syndrome or had blood glucose level > 500 mg/dL.
