Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) patients were older than 18 years old, (2) patients were diagnosed with plantar fasciitis more than 6 months prior with failed standard conservative treatments for 3 months (e.g. rest, activity modification, ice massage, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, stretching, strengthening exercises), (3) the average pain of the patients in the last week was more than 3 on a visual analog scale (VAS), and (4) patients were able to complete SF-12 and American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society Score (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot Scale questionnaires.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) a history of surgical interventions or recent foot and ankle trauma, (2) other foot and ankle pathologies including deformity, infection, (3) patients who received a corticosteroid injection at plantar fascia within 4 weeks, and (4) systemic diseases that contraindicate for ESWT such as hemophilia, coagulopathy, or foot and ankle malignancy.
