Interventions

The first week&#44
a 1&#45
hour oral health education program for T2DM was conducted by an interdisciplinary team based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) using slide presentations including the relationship and complications bet
oral care and diabetic diet. During the second week&#44
this group practised oral cleaning and self&#45
oral examination conducted by a dentist and dental hygienist. The last two week was scaling and root planing by appointment (5 patients per day) performed by a dentist. Before that treatment&#44
an individual oral hygiene instruction was provided by a dental hygienist. It included tooth brushing&#44
using an interdental brush&#44
cleaning dentures&#44
and instructions on how to self&#45
check oral health. After a period of 3 months&#44
an individual oral hygiene instruction by a dentist and dental hygienist has been revised to patients again.
