matched control patients with moderate to severe periodontitis (Group P) were otherwise systemically healthy.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The periodontal condition was graded as follows on the basis of the current classification method for periodontal diseases localized or generalized periodontitis of stage II or stage III with grade B or grade C.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusions for both groups included metabolic disorders, high blood pressure, treated with antihypertensive medications, and periodontal therapy and antibiotic treatment 3 months prior the study. Smoking habits, education status were also recorded.
