Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Having type 2 diabetes mellitus for at least 12 months, with poor glycemic control (HbA1c ≥8.5%), being treated with oral diabetic drugs only (no insulin injection), receiving lipid-lowing drugs or anti-hypertensive drugs, sedentary and lack of any regular exercise program for at least 6 months and living in Khon Kaen Province, Thailand. For microRNA study, Blood samples from the patients who increased plasma vitamin C levels and phagocytosis activity as well reduced oxidative stress at post-vitamin C supplementation compared to pre-supplement (results from the previous study in our lab group) were selected to investigate microRNA expression.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Failed to increase vitamin C levels after the vitamin C intervention
