Effectiveness of using Oral Chroma2TM as a motivation tool on the oral hygiene cares and oral hygiene status of the study participants with periodontitis comparing to a conventional periodontal health Oral hygiene

Interventions

For the intervention group&#44
the air sample from the study participant’s oral cavity will be collected and tested using the Oral Chroma2TM. The examination will be performed between 8.00&#45
9.00 in the morning prior to initial periodontal examination and at the recheck visit. The potential patients will be contacted before the appointment and will be given a list of instructions: they wi
onion&#44
spicy food&#44
and alcohol beverages one day before the examination. On the morning of the appointment when the study participants will be assessed for VSCs gas&#44
they will be instructed to refrain from using scented personal products&#44
eating breakfast&#44
and from brushing their teeth. The assessment will be conducted by one trained examiner (KT). Using a plastic syringe&#44
a 1 cc mouth air will be collected from the study participants. The syringe will be tightly held between lips to avoid contamination of the oral cavity with outside air. The patients will be then give
15 min periodontal health education and promotion program focusing on the associations of periodontal disease&#44
oral hygiene status with oral malodor by the research dentists (MT&#44
PR&#44
KT). ,This 30&#45
45 min conventional periodontal health education and promotion program&#44
which is a one&#45
one oral hygiene advice&#44
will be performed by the dental students as part of their clinical training. All the study participants will be provided information and knowledge regarding causes&#44

18 Years to 70 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) 18 years old or older, (2) has no communication problem, and (3) attend the undergraduate periodontal clinic from April-November 2019

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Those who are at risk for developing infective endocarditis will be instructed to taking antibiotics before periodontal probing and treatment (Amoxycillin 2 g, 60 mins before treatment). Potential participants who are at risk for abnormal bleeding e.g. blood disorder or taking anticoagulant treatment will be excluded.
