First ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke at least 6 months ago chronic stroke

Interventions

Two 15&#45
min of inclined walking training on the treadmill and 5 mins over&#45
ground walking with 5 mins break in between. Treadmill speed is increased slowly until comfortable speed is reached as determined by each subject. Initially&#44
the inclined grade is set at 0% and is increased by 5 % (10 % = 5.7°) every 5 mins as tolerated.,The training protocol is the same as that described in the experimental group&#44
but increasing treadmill speed by 0.1 mph (0.1 mph = 0.045 m/s) every 5 mins instead of inclined level as progression.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: First ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke at least 6 months ago. Independent walking with or without assistive device. Ankle dorsiflexion less than 0°at initial contact with passive range of motion (PROM) at least to 10°. Sufficient cognition (Mini-Mental State Examination, MMSE score of 24 or higher).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Other orthopedic and neurological disorders interfering the ability to walk. A symptomatic cardiac failure or unstable angina. Uncontrolled hypertension.
