Interventions

Lifestyle intervention In the 6 lifestyle intervention study temples two lay health promoters per temple will be trained for two weeks with a standardized training programme&#44
training manuals&#44
and practical exercises. In each temple the lay health promoter(s) is expected to start and run 4&#45
5 support groups (6&#45
8 members per group) over the project period. The intervention model used is based on a Finnish diabetes prevention implementation study (Absetz&#44
Uutela et al.&#44
2004) and includes components of the PREMIER study (Funk et al.&#44
2008
Maruthur et al.&#44
2009). Briefly&#44
the programme consists of six two&#45
hour group sessions facilitated by trained lay health promoters (Uutela et al.&#44
2004). They will receive two weeks of training with a standardized training programme&#44
and practical exercises. The first four sessions will extend over 8 weeks&#44
with 2&#45
week intervals in between sessions. The last two sessions will take place at 6&#45
8 months (Uutela et al.&#44
2004). The sessions will be facilitated by specially trained lay health promoters&#44
