Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Mechanical ventilated patients were consecutively screened for eligibility after 48 hours in the MICU. Subjects with age at least 18 years required mechanical ventilation (MV) for acute respiratory failure longer than 2 days and were expected to remain MV for at least another 2 day were enrolled.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with spinal cord injury, stroke, injury preventing the evaluation of six or more muscle groups, inability to follow complex commands, inability to understand Thai, and inability to provide informed consent were excluded.
