aged older than 10 years having serum ferritin >300 ng/mL were included. Iron chelation therapy with deferasirox (10 mg/kg/d) had been commenced for 6 months.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with NTDT, aged older than 10 years, with serum ferritin >300 ng/mL. All patients and/or parents provided written consent before the enrollment.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Known cases of type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus and patients, taking medications affecting glucose metabolism or iron chelation therapy within one month before the study, were excluded.
