Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1.Age between 40-65 years old 2.Hypertensive patients (controlled BP < 160/90 mmHg) ASA physical status II or III 3.Elective surgery requiring general anesthesia with tracheal intubation 4.Written informed consent obtained
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Cardiac surgery 2.Pregnancy 3.Obesity (body mass index > 30) 4.Expected difficult intubation 5.Nasogastric tube insertion 6.Taking beta-blockers 7.Significant medical co-morbidities (coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, cardiac arrhythmia) 8.Contraindication/precaution to lidocaine use (eg. evidence of heart block ) 9.Contraindication/precaution to morphine use (eg. asthma, COPD, chronic kidney disease stage 3 /GFR < 60 ml/min/1.73m2) 10.Allergy to study drugs
