Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Elderly participants who meet the criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD) according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV), -able to communicate and complete a self-reported questionnaire.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: -the presence of intense suicidal intent behaviors that require inpatient admission, -a history of alcohol or drug dependence, -the presence of hallucinations or delusions, -currently receiving electro-convulsive therapy or rTMS, -patients’ involvement in other clinical trials.
