Interventions

Xylitol gum: each gum contains 55% weight of xylitol or 0.96 grams per pellet (gum base 16.85%&#44
moltitol 34.06%&#44
sorbitol 1.30%&#44
aspatame 0.02%) The intervention group received the gums from classroom teachers&#44
health teachers who were assigned by the investigator to supervise the activities. Students were instructed to chew 2 pellets of gum for a period of 5 minutes for 3 times a day (after breakfast at 8.
after lunch at 12.30 a.m.&#44
and after dinner at 6.30 p.m.). The intervention was carried out only on school days under the supervision of the teachers. Each student received a total of 5.76 grams of xylitol per day. The durati

and public health experts. The purpose was to train the teachers to be able to provide oral health education and to conduct xylitol chewing gum implementation in a uniform manner at the two schools.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Having a visual or hearing impairment 2) Studying in preschool grade through grade 9 3) Age between 7 and 18 years 4) Residing in the school during the school semester

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Difficulty in swallowing or chewing 2) Temporomandibular disorder 3) Medical history of phenylketonuria for which aspartame is contraindicated 4) Refusal to participate in this study
