Study setting – Type 1AB, 1C and type 2 schools in the Colombo district. Method of randomization – Of the four educational zones in Colombo district, one educational zone will be selected randomly

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Male and female students who are studying in grade seven in the government schools in Colombo district

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Physically or mentally disabled children • School children with vision or hearing impairment that has not been corrected • School children currently away from physical activities due to illnesses or injuries

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Level of self-determined motivation towards physical activity: this will be assessed by using validated BREQ-3 at the end of the intervention. [Prior to the intervention and 4 months after the commencement of the intervention ]

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
- Self reported physical activity level: This will be assessed by already validated Physical activity questionnaire - Sinhala (PAQ-S) following the intervention [Prior to the intervention and 4 months after the commencement of the intervention] - Sedentary activity level: already validated Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ-S) will be used to assess this component after the intervention [Prior to the intervention and 4 months after the commencement of the intervention]
