Conditions

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Interventions

The intervention protocol will include assessment, strength exercises, muscular endurance and Deep Transverse Massage (MTP). Some adaptations may be made according to the needs or limitations of indiv
for the control group (CG), only the strengthening exercises will be applied.

Eligibility

Age
20 Years to 40 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adults between 20 and 40 years of age; Those with anterior or retropatellar pain in the knee; Physical activity practitioners; Presence of weakness of the muscles of the quadriceps, abductors and external hip rotators

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Knee joint surgery; Presence of clinical diagnosis related to the knee (MRI findings of intra-articular pathological conditions involving ligaments or meniscal effusion, subluxation or patellar dislocation); Fracture of the patella or in the knee region; Use of anti-inflammatory drugs; Presence of comorbidities (neoplasms, obesity, neurological diseases, cardiovascular disease and respiratory diseases); Physical therapy at another service

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The first frame will contain the first expected outcome. This will be labeled “Expected outcome one". Expect pain relief, measured through the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) which consists of measuring the intensity of the patient's pain. The score is based on zero to ten points. From zero to two points, the pain is considered mild; from three to seven, it is considered moderate; and, from eight to ten, intense

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The second frame will contain the second expected outcome. This will be identified as "Expected Outcome Two". Expect improvement in knee functionality, which will be evaluated by the Anterior Knee Pain Scale (EDAJ) which is composed of thirteen questions, being classified with a final score ranging from zero to one hundred points, indicating whether there is a functional limitation with a score of zero and, if not, the score is one hundred points and the Lysholm Scale consists of eight objective questions with a summed result: excellent: ninety-five to one hundred points, good: eighty-four to ninety and four points, regular: sixty-five to eighty-three points and poor: less than sixty-four points; The third frame will contain the third expected outcome. This will be identified as "Expected Outcome Three". Expect improvement in knee muscle strength, measured by the Medical Research Council (MRC) in which the degree of forces will be evaluated, classified as: Grade five: Complete joint movement against gravity and resistance; Grade four: Complete joint movement against gravity and some resistance; Grade three: Complete joint movement against gravity; Grade two: Partial joint movement without overcoming gravity; Grade one: Muscle contraction present without movement; Grade zero: Absence of Muscular contraction
