Age
18 Years to 60 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Individuals of both sexes; age between 18 and 60 years; no contraindications to supervised physical exercise; enrolled in the bariatric and metabolic surgery program at Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (HC-UFPE/EBSERH)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Individuals with severe psychiatric impairments such as schizophrenia, personality disorders, uncontrolled depression, or suicidal tendencies; neurological disorders that may interfere with assessments or interventions; uncontrolled addiction to alcohol or other drugs; presence of active inflammation or chronic infectious diseases; osteoarticular disorders that prevent the performance of physical exercises

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the participants' body composition throughout the follow-up period, with an expected reduction in body fat and an increase in lean mass after bariatric surgery and the exercise program. Body composition will be evaluated using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), a precise method for measuring the quantity and distribution of body fat, lean mass, and bone mass. Absolute (kg) and relative (%) changes in each of these parameters, as well as bone mineral density (g/cm²), will be observed, comparing results between the pre-surgical period and one year after surgery. Reductions in body fat and increases in lean mass will indicate improvements in the participants' body composition.;To assess the total weight loss of participants throughout the follow-up period, with an expected significant reduction after bariatric surgery and the exercise program. Weight loss will be verified using the formula [(pre-surgical body weight - final body weight)/pre-surgical body weight] x 100, which calculates weight loss as a percentage. The percentage values of weight loss will be observed, comparing results between the pre-surgical period and one year after surgery. A reduction of at least 20% in weight percentage is expected, indicating an improvement in the participants' weight management.

To assess the cardiovascular risk of participants throughout the follow-up period, with an expected reduction after bariatric surgery and the exercise program. Cardiovascular risk will be evaluated through blood tests, including lipid profile, glycemic control, and inflammatory markers. Changes will be observed in levels of total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, fasting glucose, hemoglobin A1c, fasting insulin, and HOMA-IR index, as well as inflammatory markers such as TNF-alpha (tumor necrosis factor alpha), IL-6 (interleukin-6), and IL-10 (interleukin-10), by comparing results between the pre-surgical period and one year after surgery. Reductions in the levels of these indicators, except for HDL and IL-10, will indicate an improvement in participants' cardiovascular risk profile.; To assess systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressure of participants throughout the follow-up period, with an expected reduction in blood pressure levels after bariatric surgery and the exercise program. Blood pressure will be measured using the HEM-6124 automatic monitor, a reliable device for accurate measurement of systolic, diastolic, and mean pressures. Changes in blood pressure values (in mmHg) will be observed, comparing results between the pre-surgical period and one year after surgery. Reductions in these values will indicate an improvement in participants' blood pressure control.;To assess the physical activity level of participants throughout the follow-up period, with an expected increase in physical activity after bariatric surgery and the exercise program. The physical activity level will be evaluated using the IPAQ (International Physical Activity Questionnaire), a widely validated instrument for measuring the frequency and intensity of activities performed. Changes will be observed in the weekly time spent on moderate and vigorous physical activity, as well as in the classification of individuals as active or inactive according to the World Health Organization's s
