Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: women diagnosed with primary systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) and aged 20 to 50 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Age 50 years; Smoking; Patients with other associated morbidities with the exception of Diabetes Mellitus; Patients with a history of angina, acute coronary syndrome, changes in left ventricular ejection fraction; Patients with changes in liver enzyme levels or kidney failure (creatinine> 1.5 mg / dL); Use of medications other than antihypertensives or hypoglycemics; Patient undergoing steroid or anticoagulant treatment, using food supplements, with infections or neoplasia or other chronic pathology known; Pregnancy

The effects of probiotic supplementation on blood pressure levels (by sphygmomanometry), heart rate and heart rate variability (by electrocardiogram) were evaluated. After 8 weeks of supplementation with probiotics, hypertensive patients show a 5 mmHg reduction in systolic blood pressure levels and 2 mmHg in diastolic blood pressure levels. In addition, at the end of probiotic supplementation, hypertensive women showed a significant reduction in cardiac autonomic modulation, observed by a 33.3% reduction in the LF / HF or sympathetic-vagal balance.

The effects of probiotic supplementation on the biochemical variables (by enzymatic methods), and on the intestinal and fecal microbiota (using the breath test and microorganism count) were evaluated. After 8 weeks of supplementation with probiotics, hypertensive patients present a significant reduction in serum glucose levels (9%) and total cholesterol (11.4%) and an increase in HDL (14%). The serum levels of triglycerides, creatinine, urea, LDL, VDL, c-reactive protein and malondialdehyde were not altered. In addition, after 8 weeks of treatment, there was a significant increase in the fecal count of lactobacillus (43.7%), but with no change in the counts of bifidobacteria, enterobacteria and bacteriodes. Bacterial overgrowth reduced from 3 patients before the intervention to 1 patients after the intervention.
