Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The study will include participants who meet the following criteria: average sleep duration between 7 and 9 hours; regular street running practice for at least 6 months; performing a minimum of 150 minutes per week; absence of sleep irregularity (standard deviation of sleep duration lower than 90 minutes); absence of sleep disorders, no obesity (Body Mass Index lower than 30 kg/m²); not using medications that interfere with sleep; not pregnant; non-excessive caffeine consumption (lower than 400 mg/day); and not engaged in night shift work

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: If they fail to adhere to the sleep restriction protocol; fail to properly complete the restriction control form (more than 4 records per day for three consecutive days); show changes in stimulant consumption; engage in another form of physical exercise; or take naps during the protocol period

Sleep restriction to four hours per night for seven consecutive days is expected to cause a sustained increase in blood pressure, with a mean elevation of 3.1 mmHg in systolic blood pressure and 2.2 mmHg in diastolic blood pressure, as measured by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

MeasureTime frame
Sleep restriction to four hours per night for seven consecutive days is expected to cause a mean reduction of 7 mL·kg?¹·min?¹ in oxygen consumption, considering the difference between assessments performed before and after the intervention, measured through a maximal exercise test with cardiopulmonary exercise testing (ergospirometry).;Sleep restriction to four hours per night for seven consecutive days is expected to reduce vascular function by approximately 2.2%, as assessed by the flow-mediated dilation technique.;Sleep restriction to four hours per night for seven consecutive days is expected to increase sympathetic modulation by 9% and reduce parasympathetic modulation by approximately 9%, as verified by heart rate variability analysis.;Sleep restriction to four hours per night for seven consecutive days is expected to increase arterial stiffness, leading to an increase of 30 cm/s in pulse wave velocity.
