This clinical study aims to evaluate the perception of pain, chewing quality and the concentration of inflammatory cytokines in individuals undergoing orthodontic treatments with self-ligating fixed a

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: age range from 12 to 35 years old; need for orthodontic treatment; with dental crowding between 4 and 8 mm in the upper arch; with proper oral hygiene; no caries; both sexes.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction; chronic use of anti-inflammatory drugs or antibiotics; with periodontal disease with generalized probing depth of 3 mm at the test sites; with craniofacial anomalies; wearing orthodontic devices that cause discomfort.

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 1:To assess pain levels, inflammatory cytokines, and chewing quality during treatment with different types of orthosontic appliances. Pain perception will be assessed by visual analogue scale, chewing quality assessed by the Chewing Quality Assessment Questionnaire (QAQM) and cytokine levels assessed by the Flow Cytometry Test (BD ™ CBA). Orthodontic treatments with aesthetic aligners are expected to have lower pain, better chewing quality and less inflammatory cytokines. Levels of 5% will be adopted for pre and post intervention measurements.
