Age
18 Years to 50 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Athletes from the competitive teams of the Paralympic sports of para-taekwondo, powerlifting, swimming, and athletics at the Brazilian Paralympic Reference Center of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais; individuals aged between 18 and 50 years; athletes who have participated in state, national, or international competitions in the past year; and those who have an eligible impairment to compete in the mentioned Paralympic sports; both sexes

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Individuals under 18 years of age or over 50 years; those who have not participated in state, national, or international competitions in the past year; athletes with food allergies or intolerances that prevent participation in the proposed nutritional interventions; individuals with inflammatory processes or muscle injuries in the last two months; participants with a history of severe and disabling injuries that prevent them from regular training; and athletes who do not have an eligible impairment to compete in Paralympic sports

A significant increase in skin temperature of sport-specific body segments in para-athletics and para-powerlifting was observed in response to carbohydrate- and protein-rich meals, as measured by infrared thermography. Measurements were taken at multiple time points after each nutritional intervention, revealing a significant rise in skin temperature with carbohydrate and protein intake compared to overnight fasting

The secondary outcomes of the study show that para-athletes' skin temperature is influenced by factors such as age, time of day, air humidity, and type of impairment. Older athletes showed a lower increase in temperature after fat intake, and protein intake resulted in higher temperatures in the afternoon. Fat increased skin temperature in athletes with physical impairments, while protein reduced it. Additionally, temperature varied across different body regions, with fat intake reducing temperature in the arm and deltoid. These findings highlight the importance of diet and individual factors in the thermal regulation of para-athletes
