Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: = 18 years old; classified in the international questionary of physical activity as sedentary or irregularly active; be a university student; male and female; be of any ethnicity.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants who take vitamin supplements, consume thermogenic foods such as coffee, and medications that may affect the results, such as anti-inflammatories and antipyretics, during the study period; food intake 10% above or below the prescribed level; do not complete all the planned steps; those who present errors in data acquisition.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
An increase in oxygen consumption during treadmill exercise is expected after supplementation with betalain, caffeine, arginine, or ginger, compared to the placebo condition. This was verified through spirometric analysis using the Cortex Metalyser 3B gas analyzer. A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in mean VO2 between the supplementation and placebo conditions will be considered.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
A reduction in maximum heart rate during submaximal exercise is expected after supplementation. This will be verified using a heart rate monitor. A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in mean maximum heart rate between the supplementation and placebo conditions will be considered.;A reduction in perceived exertion during exercise is expected, as assessed using the Borg scale. A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in the mean Borg scale score between the supplementation and placebo conditions will be considered.
