Exclusion criteria: Individuals who have undergone previous cardiac surgery; neuromuscular disease; pneumopathy; previous pneumectomy; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; obese individuals; hemodynamic instability

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Reduction of pulmonary complications in the postoperative period until hospital discharge assessed by report of the radiographic examination ;Increase in the oxygenation index assessed by partial arterial oxygen pressure divided by the inspired fraction of oxygen that are data provided by the arterial blood gas analysis and available on the mechanical ventilator screen

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Reduction in the time of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation assessed in hours of use in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery;Reduction of length of stay in the Adult Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and total length of stay assessed per day of hospital stay
