Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Participants of both sexes; aged between 40 and 75 years; post-stroke in the chronic phase more than 6 months after the event; with hemiparesia; independent walking ability without use of assistive walking devices for at least 10 meters; ability to understand commands; body weight equal to or greater than 30kg
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Participants presenting other significant neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions that may interfere with gait or contraindications for virtual reality use such as photosensitive epilepsy or severe cognitive impairment; participants will be excluded who present persistent motion sickness cyber-nausea after the acclimation period or serious adverse events during the session such as severe dizziness or extreme fatigue
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| It is expected to observe improvements in spatiotemporal gait parameters and functional balance. gait speed in meters per second will be obtained by the ten meter walk test and by the motion capture system. cadence in steps per minute and step length in centimeters will also be analyzed reflecting rhythm and gait symmetry. functional balance will be assessed by the berg balance scale with total score from zero to fifty six points | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| It is expected to observe initial neurological severity characterization by the national institutes of health stroke scale applied at baseline assessment. it is expected to find improvements in gait symmetry index. it is expected to observe changes in kinetic and baropodometric parameters recorded in the motion analysis laboratory. it is expected to monitor possible adverse events such as dizziness fatigue discomfort or motion sickness cyber-nausea during and after the intervention for safety and tolerability protocol analysis | — |
