Interventions

The intervention is the surgical treatment for distal radius fracture fixation using two 1.5mm Kirschner wires (K wires). In the experimental group, with 100 patients, the K wires will be left percut

Age
18 Years to 100 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients of both genders; equal or over 18 years-old; with distal third radius fracture treated with closed reduction and percutaneous fixation with 2 Kirschner wires of 1.5mm of caliber.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients under 18 years-old; open fractures; Immunossuppressed patients; necessity of more than two Kirschner wires to fix the fracture; open reduction; associated fractures.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 1: infection. Infection prevalence, detected according to the Oppenheim Classification.;Expected outcome 1: The prevalence will be measured as the number of patients with infection among the total number of operated patients. Prevalence is expressed in percentages.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 2: range of motion. The range of motion of the metacarpophalangeal joint, at two and six weeks postoperatively.;Expected outcome 2: The range of motion will be measured in degrees with a goniometer.
