Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
An analytical study will be conducted, with the predictive variable being Healing Meditation, with the primary outcome variable being the anxiety score. The Hamilton Anxiety Scale will be applied by a professional, who is not the author. After the period of 2 months, in individually scheduled interviews, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale will again be applied to all subjects, by the same professional who applied it the first time, in order to evaluate possible changes in the levels of anxiety, resulting from the practice of Healing Meditation. This professional will be blind to the group – intervention or control - to which the research subject was allocated. The variation in the Hamilton Anxiety Scale will be compared between the intervention and control groups by the non paired Student’s-t test or Mann-Whitney test, depending on the distribution of this variable. In addition, intragroup comparisons will be made between the initial time and post-intervention time, by the paired Student’s-t test or Wilcoxon Sign-Rank test. Starting from the premise that meditation would reduce this score by 4 percentage points, resulting in a proportional SD of 5.9, it would be necessary to have 18 individuals per group to generate a power of 85%, with Alpha of 5%, in the paired analysis(t-test).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The effect of Healing Meditation in each category of symptoms on the Hamilton Anxiety Scale. The Hamilton Anxiety Scale allows quantitative evaluation of anxiety, being the instrument most used in world psychiatric practice. It comprises 14 groups of symptoms, subdivided into two groups, with seven being related to symptoms of anxious mood, and seven related to physical symptoms of anxiety. The same tests will be used in the intragroup comparison to verify the effect of Healing Meditation on each category of symptoms on the Hamilton Anxiety Scale.
