Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Expected Outcome 1: By the end of the therapeutic intervention, an improvement in nutritional status is expected, indicated by a reduction in the z-score of the Body Mass Index for Age (BMI/A) and in anthropometric indices such as Abdominal, Arm, and Calf Circumference (AC, UAC, and CC). These measurements will be verified using a portable stadiometer to measure height, an electronic scale to measure weight, and a graduated, inelastic, and flexible measuring tape to measure circumferences.;Observed Outcome 1: After 20 weeks, adolescents who received the BSP as a therapeutic intervention more frequently showed a decrease in BMI/A (90% vs 60%; p=0.121); AC (70% vs 60%; p=0.639); UAC (70% vs 50%; p=0.515) and CC (50% vs 40%; p=0.653), compared to those in the control group. The medians of the negative differences in these measurements were greater in the intervention group than in the control group, but without statistical significance. Statistical analyses were performed based on the per-protocol strategy. Comparisons of medians were conducted using the Mann-Whitney test, and prevalence comparisons were made using the Chi-square test. Post-hoc power calculations were used to identify the test power of each proportion association.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Expected Outcome 2: By the end of the therapeutic intervention, an improvement in the perception of health, self-care, and body relationship among adolescents with obesity is expected. This will be verified through open interviews analyzed using the phenomenological method.;Observed Outcome 2: Qualitative analyses revealed five categories: (1) significant modification of body self-perception, (2) new and improved ways of taking care of the body and health, (3) increased sense of well-being, (4) movement towards self-liberation, and (5) openness to others and the world with new future perspectives.
